Atlanta International Airport Delta Sky Club

Met this really cute guy at the Delta Sky Club in the international terminal. LOL. Fred and I are relaxing a little and catching up prior to boarding our 6:00 pm flight to Quito. The Sky Club is HUGE and very "welcoming." They even have an outdoor patio overlooking the tarmac.  Fred is still working, however, right up until we take off. Poor guy.

Our Floating Hotel - The Celebrity Xpedition

The Celebrity Xpedition will host us for our week of cruising the Galapagos archipelago. The ship never docks as access to the islands and deep water snorkeling will be made by pangas (zodiacs). The ship carries a mere 95 passengers as it sails the islands and is serviced by a crew of 66 native Ecuadorians. Galapagos certified naturalists will also be on board to guide and educate us on our adventures.

JW Marriott

JW Marriott in Quito, Ecuador

We'll be staying four nights prior to and one night post cruise at the Marriott. This will serve as our home base while we tour with our private guide prior to joining the Celebrity Xpedition group on Friday, July 11th.  At that point we will tour with them until our flight to Baltra on Sunday, July 13th.

Flight Information

I'll be joining Fred in Atlanta for our trip to Quito, Ecuador. We're not looking forward to that red-eye trip home.

To the equator, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Islands

South America here we come! Fred and I have always been wildlife buffs and addicted to the Discovery and Animal Planet channels. Whenever we get the chance we try to find time to explore the great outdoors and find wildlife for ourselves. Since we have a year between the college tuition bills of our two sons, we thought that this would be the perfect 30th anniversary gift to each other. We've never been to South America and are excited to immerse ourselves in the culture of the Ecuadorian people. Fred will get a chance to practice his Spanish and I'll practice drinking some of that good Chilean wine. First we will explore the Cloud Forest of the Andes, searching for exotic birds, bugs, and other things that slither and crawl. Then it's on to the Cotopaxi volcano, the worlds highest active volcano, where we hope to ascend to just 14,000 feet of its near 20,000 foot summit. Next we are very excited about exploring Darwin's theory of "Natural Selection" on the Galapagos Islands.  On the top of my watch list is the blue-footed booby and Fred is in search of the white-tipped shark. We hope you enjoy traveling with us...maybe we'll spark the interest in you to travel to this part of the world.
